The article is the first text constituting an attempt at systematizing costume armor subtypes and at describing their origins and fate. Costume armor originated in the last decade of the fifteenth century. These extravagant works that did not hamper the movements provided excellent protection of the body and constituted a wonderful example of craftsmanship and artistic talent of armor creators. The author refers to the hypothesis, which describes the genesis of the “cut and blown” costumes, which spread in Europe in the late fifteenth and sixteenth century. Decorations were modeled on these very types of armor, and hence the name of the armor. The change in decorating between the first and second quarter of the sixteenth century is noticeable, when the “cut-and-blow” technique began to give way to other forms of decoration. The author distinguishes costume armor to fight on foot and horseback and conventional armor, holding decorations inspired by the “cut” costumes. In addition, it is an attempt at systematizing costume armor with extravagant decorations and armor-suits. It accurately describes their appearance, dating and creators as well as state of preservation by museum institutions in the world. It is worth emphasizing that magnificent specimens of this type of armor were kept also in Poland, including the armory of King Sigismund II Augustus and the arsenals of the Radziwill family. At present in Poland there are only few pieces of protective armor of this type.

Это статья является первым текстом, ведущим попытку систематизирования костюмных доспехов на подтипы и описание их происхождения и судеб. В последнее десятилетие XV ст. появились костюмные доспехи. Эти экстравагантные изделия, которые не ухудшали движений, защищали тело, были прекрасным и художественным примером мастерства создателей. Автор ссылается на гипотезу, которая описывает генезис „резных и выдувных” доспехов- костюмов, которые распространились в Европе на переломе пятнадцатого и шестнадцатого веков. Именно на них были смоделированы декоры на доспехах, и отсюда появилось название этого доспеха. Изменение декора заметно было между первой и второй четвертью шестнадцатого века, когда „вырезка и выдувание” начали уступать другим формам декора. Автор выделяет костюмные доспехи для пехотной и конной борьбы, а также и обычный доспех, имеющий декор, смоделированный на „резных” костюмах. Кроме того, автор дополнительно предпринимает попытки систематизирования костюмных доспехов с экстравагантным декором и доспехов -комбинезонов. Точно описывает их внешний вид, устанавливает датировку и создателей, а также состояние сохранения музейных собраний в мировых музеях. Стоит подчеркнуть, что великолепные образцы этого типа доспеха были также в Польше, в том числе в арсенале короля Сигизмунда II Августа и арсеналах рода Радивиллов. В настоящее время в Польше защитного снаряжения этого типа сохранилось немного.
