The article discusses several theoretical and methodological problems connected with research on the Slavic mythological lexicon. The author undertakes an attempt to establish the etymology of the theonyms *Veles’, *Mokosh’, *Jariło i *Da(d’)bog’. The article deals with chrematonyms functioning contemporaneously in Kielce, covering both names created in the past decade and those that originated in the 19th or 20th centuries. The subject of consideration is chrematonyms of two kinds: names from short forms of firm names and names of products, official forms as well as common. The naming material is presented according to an accepted model, firstly, names using words that already existed (whether appellative or anthroponyms or toponyms), native or foreign lexemes, and secondly, neologisms in the form of acronyms or hybrids. The first type is more numerous (63% of the whole set of names), and most frequent in the second type are acronyms (27%), with hybrids only 10% of the total. Polish names predominate decidedly; elements of foreign languages (including particles of terms in acronyms and hybrids) represent less than 20%. Firm names and names of products are among those differentiated both from a semantic and structural point of view, as well as motivational. Kielce chrematonyms are mostly (outside of a few non-transparent or completely erroneous forms) linguistically correct, logical, and orthodox.
