Artykuł przedstawia biografię oraz dorobek naukowy polskiego okulisty Bolesława Gepnera (1835-1913). W 1858 roku ukończył Akademię Medyko-Chirurgiczną w Petersburgu. W latach 1865-1867 pracował w Berlinie w klinice okulistycznej Albrechta von Graefego. W latach 1891-1913 był lekarzem naczelnym Instytutu Oftalmicznego w Warszawie. Był prezesem Towarzystwa Lekarskiego Warszawskiego w latach 1885-1888 i 1897-1899. Od 1883 roku był współwłaścicielem „Gazety Lekarskiej”. Opublikował razem z Witoldem Jodko- Narkiewiczem tłumaczenie i streszczenie podręcznika okulistyki Louisa de Weckera. Był również ojcem wybitnego polskiego okulisty Bolesława Ryszarda Gepnera (1863-1923).

The article presents the biography and scientific achievements of the Polish ophthalmologist Bolesław Gepner (1835-1913). In 1858 he graduated from the Medical-Surgical Academy in St. Petersburg. In the years 1865-1867 he worked in Berlin at the Albrecht von Graefe ophthalmology clinic. He was the chief doctor of the Ophthalmic Institute in Warsaw between 1891 and 1913. He was the president of the Warsaw Medical Society in 1885-1888 and 1897-1899. From 1883 he was a co-owner of "Gazeta Lekarska". Bolesław Gepner and Witold Jodko-Narkiewicz published a translation and summary of Louis de Wecker's ophthalmology textbook. He was also the father of the outstanding Polish ophthalmologist Bolesław Ryszard Gepner (1863-1923).
