The article describes the advancement level of knowledge in the services sector and classifies the EU economies by the level of service sector quality, with particular regard to Poland's rank in such a classification. The analysis method applied was Ward's hierarchical cluster analysis. The study objective was to classify EU economies by the quality level of their services sectors. The diagnostics used in the analysis consisted of eleven standardized variables. With regard to the distance between variables, five clusters were recognised. The advancement level of knowledge in the services sector placed Poland in the same class as Slovenia, Bulgaria, Hungary, Latvia and Croatia.
