Along with Poland regained its independence in 1918. One of the main tasks were to run education efforts. This process proceeded in extremely difficult conditions, which the country inherited from years of partitions. It was therefore necessary to build the entire educational system from scratch. Vilnius has proved to be particularly difficult region to achieve those goals, as Polish state ranged find a more complicated than it has taken place at other sites. It also has an impact on the organization of education, both in terms of general (primary), vocational and secondary. An additional difficulty created an almost total lack of quality teachers, school premises and extremely diverse social composition of the population of the region, where he lived in a number of national minorities. This required the introduction of a more flexible school system, based on the terms adapted to the existing situation. Associated with the other staffing needs and other content of the curriculum for the entire school education. In practice, most of these problems were solved only after the introduction of the new law on “school system” provided for parliament passed in 1932. The specificity of education in the Vilnius region and eastern territories were not only problems of minority and attempt an appropriate solution, but also an ambitious program of civic and patriotic education of youth. This idea is implemented at all levels of school education as part of the mandatory teaching and enjoying great popularity - extracurricular activities, after-school and youth organizations. This activity flourished until 1939. Later, when Vilnius was under foreign occupation was liquidated Polish education that could operate on the basis of secret.
