Artykuł prezentuje sylwetkę Józefa Koryckiego oraz jego działalność w latach 70. i 80. XX w. na południowym Podlasiu, gdzie był znany jako „Janosik z Podlasia”. Zdarzenia z jego biografii przedstawiono w ujęciu historycznym na tle wydarzeń społeczno-politycznych omawianego okresu; a także w kontekście funkcjonowania ówczesnych instytucji państwowych, które na różnych płaszczyznach podejmowały wobec niego adekwatne dla swoich kompetencji działania. Zaakcentowano funkcjonowanie peerelowskiej propagandy, w tym przede wszystkim reżimowych mediów. Temat został ujęty również w wymiarze psychologiczno-socjologicznym. Dokonano analizy osobowości J. Koryckiego w aspekcie jego postaw i zachowań w relacjach interpersonalnych oraz w stycznościach i stosunkach społecznych. Analizie poddano także jego rolę przywódcy grupy nieformalnej oraz lidera lokalnej społeczności. Dokonano również weryfikacji jego postaw nonkonformistycznych i zachowań w sytuacjach ekstremalnych. Całość dostępnego materiału źródłowego, dotyczącego tej barwnej i nieszablonowej postaci, opracowano i poddano krytycznej ocenie. Wykazano niejednoznaczność aksjologiczną działalności J. Koryckiego, a także rozbieżność ocen prawnych i moralnych, dokonywanych zarówno w czasie jego aktywności, jak i później – z pozycji historycznej. Wskazano również zależność sądów wartościujących od perspektywy postrzegania osoby Koryckiego oraz jego czynów – jako przestępcy i działalności kryminalnej (w optyce prawnonormatywnej) lub opozycjonisty i działalności prospołecznej (w optyce moralnonormatywnej).

The article presents Józef Korycki's profile and activity in the 1970s and 1980s in the South of Podlasie Region, where he was known as 'Jánošík of the Podlasie Region'. The events from his biography have been presented from the historical perspective, on the background of the socio-political events in the discussed period; also in the context of the functioning of the public institutions of the time, which on various levels, took measures appropriate to their authority. The article emphasises the functioning of propaganda in the People's Republic of Poland, especially the regime’s media. This subject has also been shown from a psycho-logical and sociological perspective. Józef Korycki's personality has been analysed in terms of his attitudes and behaviour in interpersonal relations as well as in social interactions and relations. The analysis also covered his role as the leader of a loosely-organised group, and the leader of a local community. The article includes also the verification of his nonconformist attitude, and behaviour in extreme situations. All available source materials pertaining to this vivid and unique personality have been processed and analysed critically. It revealed the axiological ambiguity of Józef Korycki's activity, as well as the discrepancies in the legal and moral assessments made during his activeness as well as, later, from the historical perspective. What was also indicated was the dependence of evaluative judgements on the perspective of the perception of Józef Korycki himself and his actions - that of a lawbreaker guilty of criminal activity (from the legal perspective) and of an oppositionist, together with his pro-community activity (from the moral perspective).
