Liberal traditions in Poland have quite a long history, some of which date back to the second half of 18th century. However, it has never developed into a coherent political program due to many complex factors which are explored in the article to follow. The development of liberalism was often interrupted by different historical circumstances and by the need to rebuild Poland itself after World War I and World War II. Since the ‘80s liberal concepts are more commonly found within political debate in Poland but the first attempts to utilize them in economical and social transformations after 1989 aren’t considered to be successful as of yet. The reasons for this particular situation are sought for by the author.
