Destructions caused by the Nazists during the 2nd World War on all wooden synagogues were done in a planned and methodological way. After the war there appeared the only in Poland publication by Maria and Kazimierz Piechotka on wooden Jewish temples, based on preserved structures and source materials. However, according to the authors of the article, progress of studies on the history of Jews and their culture in various aspects and at the same time a drastic change in the picture of the history of wooden sacred ąrchitecture that took place in Poland in the last twenty-five years, allow us sto ask number of questions and to formulate potential research postulates concerning w o den synagogues. In this context the authors set a few questions, just as the literature on this subject has lots of gaps and obscurities, e.g. whether it is possible for a wooden sy nagogue architecture, to be raised in the 2nd half of the 17th century in such a sophisticated and constructionally accomplished form from the very beginning. The questions make possible to set out research directions. The condition of the knowledge in this field should be completed by searches for new sources both written and iconographie ones. I.a. the next research line should concentrate on the investigation of the links between a formation and size of synagogues, because hitherto interpretations of these problems studied on incomplete material strike occasionally with their simplifications. Recently, the authors have found unknown drawings and photos of old synagogues in the collections of the National Museum in Warsaw.
