Bezpośrednie inwestycje zagraniczne (BIZ) są współcześnie jedną z najbardziej rozpowszechnionych form międzynarodowych transferów kapitału. Ich wolumen w okresie dobrej koniunktury gospodarki światowej stale rośnie, a w okresach recesji wykazuje przy tym relatywnie niską podatność na stresy. Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie, po pierwsze, w jaki sposób bezpośrednie inwestycje zagraniczne rozszerzają zewnętrzne relacje finansowe kraju przyjmującego, przez analizę ich wpływu na jego bilans płatniczy i międzynarodową pozycję inwestycyjną. Po drugie, w artykule starano się wskazać, jakie ograniczenia niesie ze sobą absorpcja zagranicznych inwestycji bezpośrednich dla zewnętrznej sytuacji płatniczej kraju przyjmującego i jego perspektyw rozwojowych.

Foreign direct investments (FDI) are contemporarily one of the most frequent forms of international capital transfers. Their volume constantly grows in the period of prosperity of the global economy, while in the periods of recession it also displays a relatively low susceptibility to stresses. The aim of the article is to present, first, how foreign direct investments expand external financial relationships of the host country, through an analysis of their impact on its balance of payments and international investment position. Second, in his article, the author tried to indicate what limitations are entailed with absorption of foreign direct investments to the external payment situation of the host country and its developmental perspectives.
