The author of the article analyses Grażyna Bąkiewicz’s Jadwiga kontra Jagiełło, a historical novel for children about the life and time of Polish Queen Jadwiga (1374-1399). The novel is the first such publication in over 50 years; the last one being Jadwiga i Jagienka by Czesława Niemyska--Rączaszkowa). The article shows the tensions between biographical events, history, and historical tidings (historical news); and well as the syncretic form of the novel (narrative structure; comic book elements; the element of a dream to go back in time that may symbolically soon come true during a multimedia history lesson).
