The subject matter of this article encompasses masculine-personal proper nouns and the opposition of their forms of the type Kuroniowie — Kuronie which is observed in nominative plural. This opposition is expressed on three levels of the language: morphological, syntactical and pragmatic/semantic. One of the forms of nominative plural has a neutral character, whereas the other one is marked. The starting point of my research was Z. Saloni’s hypothesis that the differentiation of nominative plural forms of Polish masculine-personal nouns has categorial nature. The article characterizes morphological, semantic and pragmatic features of depreciative forms created from masculine-personal anthroponyms and contains a discussion of the problem of rare and hypothetical non-depreciative forms and depreciative forms of masculine-personal plurale tantum nouns of the type Kowalscy.
