The paper discusses the main tasks of Prison Personnel as well as the concepts of motivating, motivation and a motive, which is done by the author with the help of source literature. The following types of motivation have been described: internal, external, positive and negative. The process of motivation has been presented as a model. The author refers to the following motivation models: traditional, cooperation relations, and human resources, which have been compared in a table. The comparison is based on the three following factors: assumptions, code of con- duct, and expectations. Furthermore, Herzberg’s Two-Factor Motivation Theory, E. A. Locke’s Goal-Setting Theory, and J. S. Adams’ Equity The- ory have also been discussed in more detail. The last part of the paper contains a discussion of selected tangible and intangible factors used by superioris in order to motivate Prison Service Officers.
