We współczesnej ekonomii i w zarządzaniu maksymalizacja, minimalizacja i optymalizacją są terminami szczególnie często używanymi. Celem artykułu jest refleksja nad dążeniami do maksymalizacji, minimalizacji i optymalizacji oraz obszarami, gdzie takie dążenia są uprawnione. Celem jest także zidentyfikowanie ujemnych skutków maksymalizacji i minimalizacji – szczególnie wówczas, gdy wykazywany jest brak umiaru bądź też właściwsza jest optymalizacja. Sygnalizuje się też spadek zaufania klientów do producentów i usługodawców na początku XXI wieku – co jest m.in. skutkiem dążenia tych drugich do maksymalizacji zysków w kontrowersyjny czy wręcz nieuczciwy sposób. Rodzi to też pytania o aktualność filozofii TQM – nie w teorii, ale w praktyce. Artykuł kończą rozważania nad specyficzną formą optymalizacji, jaka wiąże się z koncepcją sustainability i która zdaje się być związana ze stanem wyższej koniecznością dla ludzi i planety. Dotyczy to również sustainability enterprises.

In contemporary economics and in management, the terms of maximization, minimization and optimization are particularly often used. The aim of this paper is to reflect on the pursuits towards maximization, minimization and optimization, as well as the areas where such pursuits are authorized. Likewise, the aim is also to identify the negative effects of maximization and minimization, particularly when the lack of moderation is displayed or the fact that optimization is more appropriate. It also indicates the fall in trust among clients towards producers and service providers at the beginning of the 21st century, which is among other aspects, the effect of the pursuit by the latter of the maximization of profit in a controversial or even dishonest manner. This also gives rise to the question with regard to the validity of the philosophy of TQM – not in theory, but rather in practice.    The herein paper concludes with deliberations over the specific form of optimization that is associated with the concept of sustainability and which would seem to be associated with the state of greater necessity for the people and the planet itself. This also refers to sustainable enterprises.
