The positive development of society is linked to inter-dependence between people, who often ask themselves the following question: who are we? They define themselves with the help of categories: language, religion, history, traditions, culture, and education. America is a country that is building its identity, while at the same time not taking away the identity of its immigrants. American education upholds and supports the interactions of children with their natural environment and culture. Therefore, it is necessary to give Polish scholl students the opportunity to learn Polish language, history, and culture, in order to make them better citizens of the United States, so that they may proudly represent the Polish ethnic group, of which they are a part. Polish schools should give students the opportunity to interact with their own culture, gain an understanding of this culture, and improve their communication skills, in the hope that this will give them a sense of cultural identity, and also the ability to open up to other cultures. Polish education has many more functions and responsibilities outside Poland than it does within Poland; it not only teaches, but also provides support for students. The main goal of Polish schools is to help students answer the following question: who am I? – I, who am conscious of my roots, while at the same time wishing to participate fully in the country in which I am living?
