It rarely occurs that the meaning of a word in one language fully corresponds to the meaning of its equivalent in another language. The problem of partial equivalence should be referred predominantly to different experiences of representatives of various cultures; the differences are often a serious problem for a foreign language learner. It is the purpose of this paper to demonstrate how to attract learners’ attention to this phenomenon in a foreign language course. Project-based learning has been found a suitable way of doing it; in this respect an assumption has been made that the best way of gaining practical knowledge in this field is to analyze the meanings of new words in the youth language; the point was to find words not listed in bilingual dictionaries (Polish-German). The planned project work is based on the following research questions: When is it appropriate to say that a word in the second language is an equivalent to a word in the first language? When should the word meaning components overlap? When can it be found that a description of a word meaning is, if not perfect, then at least satisfactory?
