W dzisiejszych czasach wiele europejskich przedsiębiorstw w przemyśle przetwórczym, w tym w branży chemicznej, zmaga się z brakiem wykwalifikowanej kadry. Aby wypełnić tę lukę, fir-my przyciągają pracowników z innych krajów europejskich. Jednak ze względu na różnice w sys-temach kształcenia i szkolenia zawodowego (VET) i uzyskanych dyplomów trudno jest określić poziom umiejętności, wiedzy i kompetencji pracowników zagranicznych. Dając możliwości zdo-bywania nowych umiejętności w systemie kształcenia i szkolenia przez całe życie w celu dosto-sowania się do zmieniających się warunków pracy i rozwoju ścieżek kariery zawodowej jest ogromnym wyzwaniem zarówno dla biznesu, systemów kształcenia i szkolenia zawodowego, jak i dla samych pracowników. Jest to w korelacji z zaleceniami agendy Nowe umiejętności w nowych miejscach pracy w ramach strategii UE 2020 .
