This paper aims at assessing the new role of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in China’s foreign and security policy. Close cooperation between China and Pakistan based on the idea of building an economic corridor linking these two countries will result in geopolitical changes in the region of the Indian Ocean. The prospective China-Pakistan corridor from Xinjiang to the port of Gwadar offers China direct access to the Indian Ocean, enhancing business opportunities and opening up alternative energy routes and sources.
