Artykuł dotyczy, fundamentalnego dla psychoanalitycznej teorii kina, pojęcia "faza lustra", zapożyczonego z teorii podmiotu Jacquesa Lacana. W oparciu o książkę "Le signifiant imaginaire" Christiana Metza, autorka wskazuje na liczne analogie pomiędzy sytuacją widza kinowego a lacanowską fazą rozwoju podmiotu. Faza ta związana jest z ukształtowaniem się w psychice ludzkiej porządku wyobrażonego, stąd też znaczna część artykułu wyjaśnia funkcjonowanie "wyobrażonego" w kinie. W konkluzji autorka podkreśla, że o specyfice kina - zgodnie z tytułem książki Metza - decyduje fakt, iż wyobrażone są tu nie tylko "signifié" (opowiedziana historia) i porządek percepcji filmu, ale przede wszystkim - jego "signifiant". Mówiąc inaczej: metaforycznie pojmowane filmowe lustro nie tylko odbija świat wyobrażony, ale samo także jest wyobrażone.

The autor discusses the stage of mirror which is fundamental for the psychoanalytic theory of film and has been borrowed from Jacques Lacan`s theory of subject. Considering the book "Le signifiant imaginaire" by Christian Metz, the author point to numerous analogies between the position of a film viewer and Lacan`s stage of subject development. This stage is connected with the formation of an imaginary order in the human mind, and therefore, a major part of the article explains the functioning of the imaginary in the cinema. The autor stresses that decisive of the specificity of film - as in the title of Metz`s book - is the fact that the omaginary here is not only "signifié" (the narrated story) and film perception order but primarily - its "signifiant". In other words: a film metaphorically interpreted mirror not only reflects the imagined world, being the mirror itself that is imaginary.
