Publikacja dotyczy niezbyt znanego „paradoksu”, opisanego przez Josepha Bertranda – matematyka francuskiego. Tematyka artykułu oscyluje wokół probabilistyki. Jest to dział matematyki nieczęsto lubiany przez studentów, a przecież bliski naturze naszego świata – bardziej niż choćby geometria analityczna. Popularnonaukowy charakter artykułu pozbawiony jest gruntownych formalizmów i skoncentrowany na „sensie tego wszystkiego”. W ramach rozpatrywania zagadnienia ukazano wiele pytań związanych z teorią poznania, a także z miejscem matematyki jako ludzkiego instrumentarium w naukowym myśleniu o Kosmosie.

The publication relates to the not very well-known „paradox”, described by Joseph Bertrand – the French mathematician. The subject matter of the article oscillates around probabilistic. This part of mathematics is infrequently popular by students, but is close the nature of our world – more than (for example) analytic geometry. The popular character of the article is devoid “hard formulas” and concentrated on the „sense of this all”. Many questions connected with the theory of the science, and also with the place of mathematics as human scientific thinking process.
