Tłumaczenie utworów dramatycznych niesie ze sobą problemy związane z uwikłaniem translacji tego typu w multimedialną naturę twórczości teatralnej. Jedną z najistotniejszych i jednocześnie najtrudniejszych kwestii w badaniach przekładu dramatycznego jest sceniczność tłumaczonej sztuki, rozumiana z jednej strony jako czysto fizyczna właściwość skryptu polegającą na możliwości przeniesienia go na scenę i wypowiadania w sposób naturalny, z drugiej jako ukryta w sztuce warstwa kodów przestrzennych i gestycznych, które powinny – zdaniem niektórych autorów – zostać przez tłumacza odczytane i przeniesione do tekstu docelowego. Artykuł jest przegladem badań dotyczących przekładu teatralnego, których głównym przedmiotem jest zagadnienie sceniczności przekładu dramatu. Analiza dostępnych prac unaocznia złożoność omawianego problemu, trudności metodologiczne i niejednorodność terminologiczną, podkreślając jednocześnie wielowymiarowość przekładu dramatycznego zarówno w ujęciu teoretycznym, jak i praktycznym.
