W artykule poruszono trzy główne zagadnienia: przedstawienie drugoplanowych muzułmańskich dowódców w opisach walk o Antiochię w łacińskich relacjach uczestników pierwszej krucjaty; transmisję tych treści w kronikach drugiej generacji historyków wyprawy krzyżowej; próbę identyfikacji wzmiankowanych bohaterów z rzeczywistymi postaciami historycznymi. Podstawową bazą źródłową były relacje uczestników wyprawy do Jerozolimy takie jak Gesta Francorum, Historia de Hierosolymitano Itinere Piotra Tudeboda, Historia Francorum Rajmunda z Aguilers i Historia Hierosolymitana Fulchera z Chartres. W artykule wskazano na zróżnicowany wybór treści u poszczególnych autorów chrześcijańskich w celu kreacji wydarzeń. Badanie transmisji polegało na zestawieniu wspomnianych wyżej tekstów z kronikami tzw. drugiej generacji historyków pierwszej krucjaty do około poł. XII wieku (Balderyka z Dol, Roberta Mnicha, Guiberta z Nogent czy Orderyka Vitalisa, z uwzględnieniem Chanson d’Antioche jako dzieła o bliżej niesprecyzowanej chronologii). Na tej podstawie zasygnalizowano możliwe drogi przekazu określonych wątków, wskazujące na silne oddziaływanie tradycji Gesta Francorum. W celu identyfikacji omawianych postaci muzułmańskich wykorzystano również materiał pochodzący z innych kręgów kulturowych (np. Kronika Aleppa Kamāla ad-Dīna). Zestawienie wzmianek łacińskich i przede wszystkim muzułmańskich pozwoliło na określenie, w jakim stopniu bohaterowie, przedstawiani w kronikach frankijskich, odpowiadają substratowi faktycznemu.

The article considers three main issues: the representation of the secondary Muslim commanders in descriptions of the military struggles under the city of Antioch; the transmission of content in sources from the next generations of the First Crusade’s historians; the attempt to identify the Muslim commanders mentioned in Latin sources with real historical figures. The main sources were accounts of the participants of the expedition to Jerusalem such as the Gesta Francorum, Peter Tudebode’s Historia de Hierosolymitano Itinere, Raymond of Aguilers’ Historia Francorum and Fulcher of Chartres’ Historia Hierosolymitana. The article indicates the diversity in the content provided by individual Christian authors, who each aim to create their own visions of events. The study of the transmission of content consisted in comparing the abovementioned texts with the chronicles of the so-called second generation of the First Crusade’s historians from up to around the middle of the 12 th century (Baldric of Dol, Robert the Monk, Guibert of Nogent, Orderic Vitalis, and Chanson d’Antioche – a work with unspecified chronology). On this basis, the possible routes of the transmission of specific content have been signaled, indicating the strong influence of the Gesta Francorum’s tradition. In aim to identify the discussed Muslim commanders, information from other cultural circles has been used (e.g. Chronicle of Aleppo of Kamāl ad-Dīn). A comparison between references from the Latin sources with the Muslim ones allowed to determinate to what extent the characters depicted in the Frankish chronicles correspond to factual sources.
