Dyskusja dotycząca istotności pisania i obrony pracy dyplomowej, jak i publikacji wymaganych w edukacji akademickiej, kładzie nacisk na teorię pracownika akademickiego jako siły przysposabiającej inteligencję do jej funkcji twórczej w społeczeństwie. Dyskusja ta stanowiła bodziec do podejmowania następujących refleksji. Badania przeprowadzone w 2007 r. wśród studentów Wydziału Pedagogiki Uniwersytetu Warmińsko-Mazurskiego stanowią podstawę do tej dyskusji. Przeprowadzona analiza nie pozwala odpowiedzieć na pytania jednoznacznie. Kłopotliwe jest to, że jedynie 13,22 % studentów całkowicie zgadza się z następującym twierdzeniem: „promotor pracy naukowej jest osobą uwalniającą mój potencjał twórczy i towarzyszy rozwojowi w sposób odpowiedni do moich zdolności intelektualnych i zainteresowań"; podczas kiedy 55,37 % studentów utożsamia się z tym stwierdzeniem tylko częściowo, a 31,40 % z nich wcale nie widzi związku tego zdania z relacją łączącą ich z promotorem.

The discussions on the relevance of writing and defending the thesis, as well as higher education publications accentuated theory of the academic personnel as a preparation force of intelligence to its creative function in the society were the stimulus to undertake the following reflections. The research carried among the students of Faculty of Pedagogy of University of Warmia and Mazury in 2007 are the base of the following discussion. The undertaken analysis does not allow to answer the questions interchangeably. The fact that only 13,22% of the students completely agree with the following statement: a thesis supervisor is a person who releases my creative potential and accompanies the development according to my intellectual abilities and interests; whilst 55,37% of students identified with it partially and 31,40% of them do not associate the statement with their relations with their thesis supervisor is perplexing.
