Jan Feliks Tarnowski was the creator of the library in Dzików. The collection was related to his public, cultural, scientific and literary activities. Tarnowski had been collecting works for the library from the late eighteenth century to the first half of the nineteenth century, through gifts, exchanges and purchases from the private and ecclesiastical libraries. He bought books during the auction or using agents. Initially, the library did not have a single place for storage. Jan Feliks placed the books in Dzików, Horochów and in his palace in Warsaw. The library was merged after the collapse of the November Uprising, when Tarnowski moved to Dzików. He had the help of his wife, Waleria Tarnowska, in caring for the collection, but he also hired professional librarians, who drew up numerous catalogs of the library.
