W artykule przedstawiona została problematyka przyczyn powołania do życia stosunkowo nowej w polskim systemie prawnym instytucji, jaką jest spółdzielnia socjalna. Podstawowym przedmiotem zainteresowania było w tym kontekście pojęcie wykluczenia społecznego jako zjawiska doniosłego społecznie oraz niezwykle złożonego, a leżącego u podstaw powstawania podmiotów takich, jak spółdzielnia socjalna. Z uwagi na niejednolite rozumienie terminu wykluczenia społecznego w literaturze, autorka zaproponowała nową definicję tego pojęcia. Praca doktorska zawiera przy tym omówienie roli spółdzielni socjalnej w zwalczaniu zarówno zjawiska wykluczenia społecznego, jak i finansowego, a także syntetyczne omówienie historii legislacji, która doprowadziła do uchwalenia ustawy o spółdzielniach socjalnych.

The doctoral dissertation presents the causes of establishment of social cooperative, an institution relatively new in the Polish legal system. The main interest in this context is the concept of social exclusion, as a phenomenon socially momentous and extremely complex, and underlying formation of subjects such as social cooperative. Due to the non-uniform understanding of the term social exclusion in the literature, the author proposes a new definition of it. The doctoral thesis contains a discussion on the role of the social cooperative in the fight against the phenomena of social and financial exclusion, as well as synthetic overview of the history of legislation that led to the adoption of the bill on social cooperatives.
