Artykuł przedstawia miejsce kukurydzy w wierzeniach Majów na przykładzie literatury antropologicznej odnoszącej się głównie do tzw. Wyżyn Majów. Opisuje rolę kukurydzy w odżywianiu współczesnych Majów. Prezentuje ponadto wierzenia związane z kukurydzą oraz rolę tych wierzeń w źródłach etnohistorycznych i rekonstrukcjach religii starożytnych Majów. Zwyczaje te są nie tylko esencją kultur Maya, ale też stanowią ich najstarszą tradycję.

This article summarizes the role of maize in Maya ideology based on the relevant literature on Highland Maya anthropology. It begins by describing the role of maize in Maya subsistence and cuisine and proceeds to present maize-related beliefs of the Maya. It then describes how such beliefs correlate with ethnohistoric sources and reconstructions of ancient Maya beliefs.
