The article considers images of a decent life offered to teenage girls by the type of publication that is new to the Russian culture, namely “life-style magazines.” Glossy magazines for teenagers, performing tasks common for the mass culture (distraction, entertainment, purposeful simplification of complex issues), at the same time perform additional functions in each country. In post-Soviet Russia at the turn of the century they were not only lifestyle textbooks but, due to a substantial conflict of generations caused by different understanding of the fundamentals of society, such as the material and the spiritual ratio, behavioral targeting-on-goal/orientation-at-values, became a kind of adaptation tools in a situation of the dissonance of values.
