Przekazy określane jako memy internetowe zaczynają stanowić istotne zjawisko we współ- czesnej kulturze. Są to różnego rodzaju obrazki, zdjęcia, filmy, teksty, a także rozmaite ich połączenia, które użytkownicy internetu rozsyłają pomiędzy sobą, bez udziału oficjalnych instytucji nadawczych. Memy internetowe są tworzone i rozpowszechniane przy użyciu technologii cyfrowych i internetu, a materiałem, z którego powstają, są wszystkie publicznie dostępne teksty kultury. Memy są często także komentarzem do bieżących spraw publicznych. Zwykle nie są elementem kultury masowej, ponieważ są zrozumiałe tylko w grupach użytkowników o określonych zainteresowaniach.

The messages known as internet memes become an important phenomena in contemporary culture. These are various pictures, films or texts and their remixes. Internet users send these messages to each other regardless of institutional media broadcasters. They create and broadcast internet memes using the digital technologies and the Internet. The internet memes may be sometimes comments to public affairs or manifestations of engagement in some spheres of culture.
