A person can age in a normal way, pathologically, or successfully (optimally). Th e text presents the perspective of changes that take place in the human personality in one’s old age, the infl uence with personality, on the formation of the personal attitude to time as well as the importance of life experience for personality. Th e importance of active engagement in life is described using such factors of successful ageing as: physical and cognitive resources, social productivity, interpersonal relationships, absence of disease and disability, positive spirituality. Th e factors listed by the John Rowe and Robert Kahn model of successful ageing create a framework for the discussion of active approach to ageing from a psychological perspective. A particular attitude as well as using the resources available in various areas of human functioning result in feelings of life satisfaction, fulfi lment, and a belief that one’s life has sense and meaning, allowing for staying fi t mentally and/or physically even in the late periods of life.
