Jan Józefowicz Karp was born in 1694 in a middle gentry family. He belonged to the first generation of a Catholic family and was brought up according to its rules. Before October 1, 1628, he got married to Barbara Grajewska, who belonged to the noble clan of Gozdawas. Barbara’s dowry consisted of the following properties: Koszewo, Dębowo and Grabowczyk, Truski and Łubino in Bielsk. On August 14, 1629, in a camp near Malbork, Jan Karp, the royal courtier, was given a privilege to manage the Podlasie Province. Later on, he took an active part in the political and social life of Podlasie. He also cared about the economic sphere and successfully enlarged his properties. Mr. Jan Karp, Podlasie Deputy Master of the Pantry, died at the age of forty in January 1944. He was buried in the ancestral necropolis at the church in Brzozowa.
