Studie analyzuje celkovou situaci v Chorvatsku na počátku roku 1989. Vnitropolitické a společenské události jsou zařazeny do obecného kontextu jugoslávské krize, která se právě na počátku roku 1989 výrazně dramatizuje. Autor definuje základní priority a stanoviska nejvyšší chorvatské mocenské elity v tomto období. Základní kontury politiky chorvatského mlčení, jak byl postoj chorvatských komunistů po roce 1971 nazýván, se autor snaží ukázat na nejdůležitějších událostech ledna roku 1989. Odborná studie je založena na studiu hlavních chorvatských periodik a dosud stále skrovné sekundární literatury.

This study analyzes the overall situation in Croatia at the beginning of the year 1989. Internal political and social events are included in the overall context of the Yugoslav crisis, which was dramatizing at the beginning of 1989. The author defines the basic priorities and opinions of the high Croatian power elite in this period. The basic contours of Croatian so called “politics of silence”, how attitude of the Croatian communists after 1971 was called, are exemplified by the most important events of January 1989. This study is based on an analysis of the major Croatian periodicals and still meagre secondary literature.
