In the paper the authors try to draft the trends of contemporary education and pedagogical thought, and to apply these conceptions for the military academies’ education in the 20th century and nowadays. The four pillars of education, which is: understanding the world and other people, using acquirements in practice, and self-education will be considered in the context of the specific educational situation of the future soldiers-citizens.
