Na przestrzeni ostatnich lat badacze zastanawiają się nad formą reżimu politycznego, jaką przyjmuje Turcja pod rządami prezydenta Recepa Erdoğana. Nawiązując do dyskusji w literaturze, autorzy niniejszego artykułu analizują możliwość wystąpienia w tym państwie autorytaryzmu konkurencyjnego w ujęciu Stevena Levitsky'ego i Lucana Way'a, skupiając się na sferze medialnej. Zbadano zagadnienie tzw. „nierównego boiska gry” i powiązaną z nim przewagę konkurencyjną inkumbenta na przykładzie kampanii medialnej poprzedzającej połączone wybory prezydenckie i parlamentarne z maja 2023 roku. Ponadto, uwzględniając powyższe zmienne, została dokonana analiza w ujęciu porównawczym stanu wolności obywatelskich i demokracji w Turcji na tle pozostałych państw kandydujących do Unii Europejskiej.
