The article presents the results of the study of the structure of physical training of highly qualified female hockey players in annual macrocycle aimed at defining the effective patterns of physical training of highly qualified female hockey players in tandem annual training cycle according to the theory of periodization. The results of the study revealed an acceptable structure of physical training of highly qualified female hockey players during the annual training cycle that allows defining the problem of planning orientation, means andmethods of physical training in the structural formations of the macrocycle. In the structure of the physical training of the athlete the researchers allocate special, auxiliary and general training. Therefore, one of the most important issues of effective management of the training process, ways to improve special training of the athletes is the search for rational forms of planning training loads in the structures of annual and long-term training in any sport. Technology of planning of the training process at different stages of the annual and long-term sports training has become the subject of numerous studies of the specialists from different sports. In the field hockey the two-cycle planning of annual training cycle is used. In accordance with the laws of the development of sports form, training cycle in the field hockey is divided into the following periods: preparatory, first competition, health-preparatory, second competition and transition. These periods differ in tasks, ratios, types of training volume and intensity of training effects that are applied. The boundaries between the periods have a conditional character. One period in its content gradually changes into another, due to the need for gradual changes in training load. General and special physical training are two components of the same phenomenon. They should be considered in indissoluble unity, which is implemented in practice. Naturally, the technique of physical training is based on unity with other elements of training and, above all, technical, tactical and psychological training. The study does not reveal all the aspects of the identified problems, but may still be a step to further work in defining the ways of optimization of physical training of highly qualified athletes in field hockey.
