The Jewish cemetery in Czeladź is one of the largest and best kept in the Upper Silesian conurbation. It constitutes the only necropolis in the region where the graves of men and women are set apart. Revalorization performed in the years 1987-1990 made it possible to recreate many of the tombstones, the majority of which are traditional matzevot and the less numerous comprise free standing architectonic forms. Their ornamentation is characteristic for the Sezession and Neoclassicism and testifies to the adaptation by the Jewish community of certain currents of European art and culture. An attempt was made at a reconstruction of the polychromy of the tombstones (matzevot, gateway matzevot and architectonic forms).
