W artykule przedstawiono rozwój polityki regionalnej Unii Europejskiej oraz jej wpływ na współpracę transgraniczną regionu lubuskiego. Opierając się na dokumentach, autor skoncentrował uwagę na genezie, celach, instrumentach, funduszach strukturalnych oraz wymiarach współpracy transgranicznej. Polityka spójności to kluczowy aspekt funkcjonowania Unii Europejskiej, jej aktualny kształt jest efektem wspierania przemian strukturalnych i wyrównywania poziomu życia w regionach państw członkowskich.

The paper presents the development of the EU regional policy and its impact on the sustainable development of the Lubuskie region. The considerations focus on the origins, goals, instruments, structural funds and dimension of sustainable development conducted on the basis of the analysis of resource documents related to EU regional policy. Regional policy remains the key aspect of the functioning of the European Union and its current shape results from the extent to which structural changes and levelling out the differences in the living standard in particular EU member countries are supported.
