The article is based on documents of the Agency for Preservation of Monuments of Eastern Galicia which are found in the Central National Historical Archive in Lviv, as well as on texts published in the period under discussion. The issue of historical significance of Przemyśl and the social awareness of it at that time has been presented on the examples of major local monuments and discussions around them. Among the main historic places were: the Przemyśl Castle, the Greek Catholic Cathedral (former Carmelite church), the Roman Catholic Cathedral, the post-Jesuit church, the Franciscan church and the synagogue. They were subjects of interest of Galician restorers and local cultural activists who with time gathered around the Przemyśl TPN (Society for the Friends of Learning), and church authorities.
