W opracowaniu scharakteryzowano rynek bankowości internetowej w Polsce na tle krajów Unii Europejskiej. Następnie, określono poziom korzystania z usług bankowości internetowej, a także czynniki determinujące korzystanie z usług bankowości on-line w wiejskich gospodarstwach domowych. Jak wynika z przeprowadzonej analizy, 48% ubankowionych mieszkańców wsi korzysta z usług bankowości internetowej, a ¾ osób z tej grupy to klienci aktywni. Respondenci najczęściej korzystają z podstawowych funkcjonalności bankowości internetowej (sprawdzanie salda, śledzenie historii rachunku, zakładanie lokat). Wśród zalet bankowości internetowej, badani najczęściej wymieniali oszczędność czasu. Głównymi barierami rozwoju bankowości internetowej na obszarach wiejskich są wysokie opłaty za Internet oraz słabo rozwinięta infrastruktura telekomunikacyjna.

Internet banking market in Poland was characterized in the paper against the background of the European Union countries. Subsequently, the level of the use of Internet banking services was presented, but also the factors determining the utilization of on-line banking services by rural households. As results from the conducted analysis, 48% of rural inhabitants make use of banking services and ¾ persons in this group are active clients. The respondents most frequently use the basic functions of Internet banking (checking the balance, following the account record, opening deposit accounts). Among the advantages of Internet banking the respondents most frequently mentioned saving time. The main barriers to Internet banking development in rural areas are high costs of the Internet and poorly developed telecommunication network.
