A number of findings of Roman coins were discovered in the area of Grudziądz; a majority of them are lacking explicit archaeological context. In the subject literature there are recorded coins from several places: Boguszewo, Błędowo, Dąbrówka Królewska, Gołoty, Chełmno, Grudziądz, Mazanki, Mniszek, Radzyń Chełmiński, Rywałd, Rządz, Szumiłowo, Wabcz, Widlice, Zakrzewo. Those coins were introduced in the literature by M. Gumowski, Rev. Wł. Łęga, A. Krzyżanowska. This set have been recently increased of new four coins – three obtained from the territory of mun. Grudziądz, namely Wielki Wełcz (archaeological site no. 10, Antoninus Pius’s denarius) and Nowa Wieś (a. s. no. 4, brass sestertius and silver denarius), and the fourth one that has been found in mun. Świecie nad Osą. The latter – a subaerat depicting Marcus Aurelius – functioned as a pendant on a skeletal burial in the burial ground of Wielbark culture in Linowo, archaeological site no. 6. The coins from Wielki Wełcz and Nowa Wieś are isolated artifacts from surface of archaeological sites, i.e. settlement and alleged burial ground of Wielbark culture. Every new discovery of coins is worth recording, because it can significantly enhance our knowledge of the inflow of coins to Poland and the Chełmno land. All the coins presented here occurred in a relatively continuous area, at a distance that does not exceed 25–30 km, and corresponds with the Amber Road.
