Współczesna rzeczywistość subkulturowa wymaga nowego spojrzenia i zdefiniowaniaz uwzględnieniem jej podstawowych cech i elementów.

The contemporary reality of subcultures requires a new approach and new definitions, accounting for its basic features and components. Subcultures are especially attractive to persons with low self-esteem, emotionally liable and those, whose psychological needs were not fulfilled by family and school environments. In order to show the diversity of alternative groups chosen by young people, this work includes a description of the subcultures of skinheads, skaters, soccer hooligans, traceurs and goths. The effects of participating in the subcultures exist both in the physical area (bodily harms, self-cutting, body-modification, sight and hearing defects, bones structure defects or even deaths), and the mental area (disruptions of the process of identity formation, interiorisation of subcultural norms, patterns and values, familiarizing with aggressive behaviours and violence) and social (weakening of family bonds, improper functioning at school, cultural diffusion, offensive bahaviours and vandalism). Preventive measures against young people’s involvement in informal subcultural groups should be especially undertaken on the first level and on the second level and it should include all micro and macro – social activities related with the support of families, preventive educational programs and an open approach and dialogue-based work with the youths.
