The topic of “way” including its cultural contexts in performance studies is considered as a fundament of variabilist assumptions. Performance art addresses them and has moreover the ambition to be an action in the actual sense of the word – devoid of the dimension of “semper et ubique”. It is diffi cult, however, to avoid symbolic aspects of this kind of art. Differences between performances consider the essential questions of performers asking about means and methods, functions and aims of this art. The paper discusses in detail two examples of different realizations of levels of meaning of “way”, embedding them in the artistic context (distinguished by W. Tatarkiewicz models of creativity) and the philosophical context (classical, but forgotten thought of Pascal and Aristotelian discourse).
