The paper examines the psychological phenomenon referred to by Yuri Trifonov as “недочувствие” (insensitivity). The absence or loss of feelings (emotions) as a result of identity crisis is typical for Y. Trifonov’s protagonists. Their ability to reflect retrospectively on this quality is analyzed as a plot-factor.
