The paper aims at presenting deliberations explaining the concept of innovation and its measurement issues in relation to both enterprises and economy. The level of enter- prise innovation depends on several factors, particularly internal, related to the function- ing of the organization. The paper presents the results of empirical studies on the effects of selected variables, such as size of the company, its profile and the organizational and legal form, on the level of innovation. These interrelations are considered in the context of the barriers to innovation rated as moderate, or with no strong impact on innovation implementation.
