The paper in epistemology is devoted to uses of information by K. Popper and J. Hintikka. The author places emphasis on disjuncture between two great philosophers’ approaches in order to reveal that widely used notion of information of epistemic logic may lead to inconsistencies. They are infinite regress if C. Shennon’s “elimination of uncertainty” method for measuring information in meaningful messages is used and reversion of clas sical rationalism ontology speaking of information as alternativeness semantic of “states of affairs”, “scenarios”, “courses of events” or “situations”. Popper’s approach to information as empirical content enjoys no demand instead as if it was already a lesson learned. His improbability criterion of new and interesting information is wrongly understood as improbability of eliminating alternatives.
