W artykule przedstawiono genezę i rozwój przyrządów do pisania dla osób niewidomych. Przez stulecia poszukiwano rozwiązań prowadzących do stworzenia wypukłego rodzaju pisma, które umożliwiałoby pełny zapis w dowolnej notacji: muzycznej, matematycznej czy chemicznej. Główne dążenia zmierzały ku opracowaniu takiego pisma, które nie byłoby tylko rodzajem druku, ale przede wszystkim umożliwiałoby samodzielne robienie notatek przez osoby niewidome. Jednocześnie poszukiwano urządzeń do pisania. Historia pokazuje, iż był to proces złożony, który jednocześnie zachodził w różnych częściach Europy i świata. Urządzenia służące do pisania, opracowane i wynalezione dla osób niewidomych, można podzielić na trzy klasy. Pierwszą z nich tworzą urządzenia do pisania ręcznego, drugą – proste urządzenia mechaniczne, ostatnia klasa obejmuje już bardziej zaawansowane urządzenia mechaniczne. Dziś, wykorzystując system Louisa Braille’a, poszukuje się nowych technologii w opracowaniu i zwiększaniu dostępu do druku osób z dysfunkcją wzroku.

This paper presents the origins and development of writing instruments for the blind. For centuries, one looked for solutions for the creation of relief type of letter that would allow a complete record in any notation: musical, mathematical or chemical. The main efforts were aimed at the development of such a letter that was not only a kind of printing, but also would allow the blind to take notes themselves. At the same time one searched for writing devices. History shows that it was a complex process, which also occurred in various parts of Europe and the world. Writing devices designed and invented for the blind can be divided into three classes. The first of these devices are manual ones, the other – simple mechanical devices and the last class includes more advanced mechanical devices. Today, in order to increase access to print for the blind, various technologies have been looked for with the use of Louis Braille’s system.
