Asbestos is one of the substances with carcinogenic effects, resulting from inhaling of fibres present in the air. Production of asbestos-based products was banned in Poland in 1999. Moreover, a government programme was developed aimed at eliminating asbestos and products made of it from our country by 2032. In 2015, NIK audited the realisation of the tasks set out in this programme, as well as in the programmes of individual local self-government units. The audit also examined whether the owners, users of perpetual lease and administrators of estates properly performed the tasks imposed on them by the Ministry of Economy, local self-government units and local branches of the Agricultural Property Agency (ANR) in the years 2009–2015.
