Artykuł analizuje kontekst, przebieg i skutki wyborów prezydenckich w Turkmenistanie w lutym 2012. Stwierdza, że pomimo innowacji formalno-prawnych oraz uczestnictwa siedmiu nominalnych rywali ubiegającego się o reelekcję prezydenta Berdymuchamedowa, wybory miały czysto rytualny charakter oraz wyjaśnia ich funkcje. W końcowej części przeanalizowano rosyjski dyskurs ekspercki nad dokonaniami rządów Berdymuchamedowa. Krytyka nikłości reform nie zmierza jednak do ich pogłębienia, lecz wywarcia presji na Turkmenistan, by pozostał w rosyjskiej orbicie w zamian za gwarancje bezpieczeństwa pozostawania u władzy niezależnie od wszystkich wyimaginowanych bądź rzeczywistych zagrożeń.

This article presents a context, the course and results of presidential elections ’2012 in Turkmenistan. Despite of some improvement of legal basis of the elections and participation of seven nominal rivals of Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov, the incubent, the February elections were mostly a ritual exercise. The article explains the functions of such elections on the background of “Arab Spring” and regional practices. Last part of the article is focused on the discourse of Russian experts on the scope of internal changes in Turkmenistan under Berdymukhammedov and the consequences of his multivector energy policy. Suprisingly, a very critical assessment of his presidency is not followed by the pressure for deepening of reform. It is rather used to compel Turkmen leadership into following a pro-Russian orbit in exchange for guarantees of remaining in power in spite all of imaginary or real challenges and threats.
