Artykuł podejmuje tematykę społeczno-politycznego zaangażowania młodych ludzi w Polsce. Przyjmując za punkty wyjścia teoretyczne rozważania dotyczące takich pojęć, jak polityczne i obywatelskie zaangażowanie, oraz stan badań na temat motywacji do zaangażowania, autorzy koncentrują się na ścieżkach aktywistycznych młodych dorosłych: (1) w jakich okolicznościach rozpoczyna się i rozwija ich zaangażowanie; (2) co ich do niego motywuje – zarówno w pierwszym, jak i kolejnych etapach, oraz jak te motywacje zmieniają się w czasie. Artykuł opiera się na analizie 28 wywiadów z młodymi aktywistami i aktywistkami (18–24 lata) związanymi z co najmniej jednym z trzech obszarów zaangażowania: instytucjonalno-politycznym (polityczne młodzieżówki, partie polityczne, samorządy); społeczno-politycznym (ruchy i organizacje społeczne o ogólnopolskim oddziaływaniu) i społeczno-lokalnym (ochotnicza straż pożarna, lokalne organizacje pozarządowe działające na rzecz społeczności lokalnej).

The article addresses the issue of socio-political engagement of young adults in Poland. At the level of theory, it engages with the concepts of political participation and civic engagement and builds upon the state-of-the art in motivations for engagement research. The authors focus on young adults’ activist pathways in order to address the following questions: (1) under what circumstances does their involvement begin and develop; (2) what motivates them to get engaged, both in the initial and subsequent stages, and how do these motivations change over time? The article is based on an analysis of 28 interviews with young activists (18–24 years old) associated with at least one of the three areas of engagement: institutional/political (political youth groups, political parties, local government), socio-political (social movements and organisations with a nationwide impact) and socio-local (volunteer fire brigades, local community-based NGOs).
