On the ‘guide’ aspect of Nowe Ateny [New Athens]

Abstracts
Personal visiting of places, which are considered to be tourist attractions, is not a prerequisite for writing a guide. The authors have long used indirect sources for that. However, both the selection of places as well as the choice of information about them tell much both about the author and potential readers of such studies. This paper is an attempt to characterize selected areas of cognitive interests of the Polish nobility of the second half of the 18th century, for whom Nowe Ateny [New Athens] by the Polish priest Benedykt Chmielowski was an important source of knowledge about countries and people.
