The paper examines the possibility of solving the problem of the legitimation of ideas and the theory of crisis. The subject of Author’s analysis is the question of responsibility of the intellectual as the ‘natural’ state of being. The development of the German culture after the year 1945 shows that the meaning of intellectual work has changed. At the very beginning there was a mainly critical perspective on the culture itself. As the century was nearly ended the critical issue was gone and the leading power was given to the postponed mainstream. What is striking is the inconsistency between the theory and the praxis of culture
