Celem artykułu jest ocena kształtowania się poziomu i struktury konsumpcji oraz jej społecznego zróżnicowania w latach 2000–2011 w świetle dochodów i wydatków gospodarstw domowych. Na przestrzeni ostatnich dwunastu lat zaobserwowano wyraźne zróżnicowanie w poziomie dochodów i wydatków gospodarstw domowych. Najwyższym poziomem dochodów i wydatków charakteryzowały się gospodarstwa pracujących na własny rachunek, a najniższym gospodarstwa rolnicze. W strukturze konsumpcji polskiego społeczeństwa odnotowano malejący udział wydatków na żywność, odzież i obuwie oraz edukację, a rosnący udział wydatków na mieszkanie, transport i łączność oraz ochronę zdrowia. Malejący udział wydatków żywnościowych i zmniejszająca się skłonność do konsumpcji świadczą o wzroście poziomu zamożności polskich gospodarstw domowych. Jednakże zwiększający się dystans między dochodami najbogatszych i najuboższych wyraźnie utrwala zróżnicowanie poziomu i struktury konsumpcji polskich gospodarstw domowych.

The purpose of this article is to evaluate the level and structure of consumption and its social diversity in the years 2000–2011 in the light of the income and expenditure of households. During the last twelve years, a clear diversity in the level of income and expenditure of households was observed. The highest level of income and expenditure was characteristic for self-employed households, while the lowest – for farms. In the consumption structure of the Polish society, there was a declining share of expenditure on food, clothing and footwear as well as on education, while a share of expenditure on housing, transport and communication as well as on health care was increasing. A declining propensity to consume and a decreasing share of food expenditures in the overall expenditure show an increase in the level of wealthof Polish households. However, a growing gap between the income of the richest and poorest plainly preserves diversity in the level and structure of Polish households’ consumption.
